lisa doodle

lisa doodle is a daily writing activity for students (and others) to grow as writers in a fun and positive space.

Every day, we publish a new prompt - narrative, persuasive or explanatory.

Students write a response and submit it to lisa for quick feedback in plain English.

Read on to understand how lisa doodle works.

doodle traffic lights
lisa provides 3 brief sets of feedback to students, the first of which are the doodle traffic lights. Here's some information about what they mean.

responses are graded against four conventions - content, language, structure and accuracy. NZ teachers will recognise these from the NZ CAA.

the traffic lights have been calibrated from national (NZ) test data for year 10 students.
-
blue indicates writing that's above the expected standard.
-
green indicates writing at the expected standard.
-
orange indicates writing that's approximately a year below the expected standard.
-
red indicates writing that's two or more years below the expected standard.
text feedback

lisa doodle provides quick feedback to students that's short and simple.

coins
We've deliberately avoided providing a 'score' that relates to pass or fail. This includes not giving grades that relate to a year level.
The 'coins' score is a loose metric to encourage students to write again, and improve their score.

The score is based on lisa's 4 conventions (ideas, organisation, variety and accuracy) and students ability to write for the purpose and audience of the prompt.
For now, the score may vary, eg if 2 students submit exactly the same text, they may get a different score. This reflects the current variability of AI, which we're working to reduce.
